Summer of the West Coast IPA

Posted by

Last summer I went on a Brewery Adventure Tour in seeking out Ciders and Seltzers to determine for myself why they have become so popular. This summer, I take a turn in a totally different direction! It will be the hunt for the West Coast IPA!

Since we started the podcast, IPA’s have become more common for me. A very large part is due from beer exchanges with many of our friends in the beer community. (Thank you to one and all!) Many of my favorite IPA styles tend to be New England Style IPA. (NEIPA) and Imperial/Double.

As many craft beer guys and gals will tell you, the West Coast IPA tends to be more bitter! We recently did a two-part episode with Nick Rotruck and Joe Crockett of The Hop In, We’re Drinking Podcast where Joe explained how some have described the West Coast IPA as tasting like “cat piss”. That made for a funny conversation. For the record, none of us view it that way.

Keeping an open mind. I cannot wait to try more West Coast IPA’s and get them to climb the ladder of my beer rankings! Stay tuned for further updates!

Cheers!

Steve
